Meet Our Family

RT & Susan Snyder

RT and Susan both come from a long line of grandparents and great-grandparents who homesteaded in the prairies of Montana.  Both have the land and sheep running way back in their heritage.  RT's great-grandparents started the first shearing acres in this area because homesteading didn't provide enough to eat.  Susan's grandmother came from a sheep ranch and her wedding present was several hundred ewes.  Susan grew up on the Homestead Ranch feeding bum lambs, gardening, riding horseback, cooking, and serving the hunting guests. She went on to teach, which is what brought two of her grandparents to Montana.  Outside is her favorite place to be, especially when living in "The Last Best Place".  RT works as an insurance agent and tax preparer by day and by night, feeds Susan's sheep, and lovingly shears them every spring.  Fall finds him in his element at the cabin on the Middle Fork as outfitter of The Homestead Ranch and cook of the camp.  We have four adult children and 5 soon to be 6 grandchildren.  Our youngest son, Watson, grew up in the hunting camp and has been guided since he came of legal age.    He and his new bride, Naomi, are beautifully keeping alive what we all love.  We look forward to sharing what God has designed and our parents generously passed on to us.

 Watson and Naomi Snyder

We are Watson and Naomi Snyder, a husband and wife team who manage the Homestead Ranch as its fourth generation agricultural producers. We were fortunate enough to meet in Montana and even had our wedding ceremony here on the ranch. Our goal is to share the beauty of this location and provide opportunities for people to experience agriculture firsthand. When we're not tending to the ranch, you can find Watson leading fall hunting trips and fishing excursions while Naomi trains horses, manages the household, and works on her blog. Book a stay in one of our cozy cabins, plan your dream wedding with us, or join us this fall for an unforgettable hunting experience - but be sure to say hello to our newest family member, arriving in June.

Mom & Dad

Mom & Dad

Ed and Billie Lou Arnott, both children of Montana homesteaders, met in college chemistry class.  The handsome cowboy smiled at the pretty nursing student, and the chemistry lasted for over 60 years.  Dad, at the age of 6, helped walk a band of sheep (1000) to where the ranch is today.  After college, he and that beautiful nurse, who had been raised on a homestead in eastern Montana, ranched together, running both cattle and sheep.  To help pay for the ranch, together they started The Homestead Ranch Outfitting business.  Ed loved people and showed off the beautiful country they called home.  Billie did everything from ride for cattle, run haying equipment, and cook for all the family, friends, and hunters that arrived at the ranch.  She took a special interest in every person, remembering everyone right down to the flavor of the jam they preferred or if they took cream or sugar in their coffee.  All the while she was also running the ranch she grew up on that was 200 miles away.  Together, Ed and Billie welcomed many guests, family, and friends to their home and beloved state for over 50 years.  With every generation, it is that same tradition we try to maintain at The Homestead Ranch.

We guarantee an unforgettable experience

At the heart of our business is a family legacy deeply rooted in love for Montana and its people. Passed down through generations, RT and Susan Snyder, alongside their son Watson and his wife Naomi, are dedicated to carrying on this tradition. Through warm hospitality, we welcome guests who seek to enjoy themselves in the unique richness of Montana's landscape and culture. Join us as we invite you to create unforgettable memories in the Last Best Place!
